Each week we focus on a different chapter for which all of the techniques/games will fit into:
Chapter 1 - Boundary Setting: Self-defence begins with boundary setting. In this chapter the children will explore the importance of setting and respecting boundaries in all areas of life and techniques will be practiced in this context.
Chapter 2 - Defence: This week's session focuses on active engagement and the importance of defensive strategies in self-defence.
Chapter 3 - Comfort in Chaos: This week focuses on empowerment and the ability to remain calm and focused in otherwise uncomfortable situations (in and out of a fight).
Chapter 4 - Escapes: Being able to escape from dangerous holds and positions is a core component of jiu-jitsu.
Chapter 5 - Stranger Danger: This chapter introduces an essential conversation about the concept of strangers, guiding children to understand that while not all strangers are harmful, caution is always necessary. We address the critical question: how do we discern between those who are safe and those who are not?
Chapter 6 - Controls: During this chapter top priority is given to teaching the children the various positions of control in jiu-jitsu and putting those controls to the test with some fun and positionally-specific resistance games.
Chapter 7 - Helping Others: The highest level of confidence is displayed when a child uses their skills to protect someone else. In this chapter, the emphasis is to give children the permission and the techniques to stand up for others when they feel empowered to do so.
Chapter 8 - Submissions: These weeks children will focus on all the possible submission techniques in jiu jitsu that makes sense for kids in each age group. Little Champs will learn how to "Catch and Release" with no pressure.

FAQs
Many parents ask, what’s the difference between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Karate classes? While we believe all martial-arts have value, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has not only been proven to be the most effective martial art for a smaller person to defend themselves in a real fight for nearly a century, it also can be the most gentile.
We don’t want our kids or students turning into bullies themselves, and we also believe self-defence should be scalable, depending on the situation. Whereas kids Karate lessons or Taekwondo classes rely solely on landing punches and kicks, jiu-jitsu for kids focuses on neutralising a threat with verbal boundaries, distance management, body control, and eventual negotiation.
In Mat Munchkins it in mandatory that a parent or guardian participate in the class with their child.
We encourage parents to stay and watch! There are sofa's, wifi and hot drinks available.
Ultimately we love parents getting involved! Even better… you can join in our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for adults, and have yet another thing in common with your little one. We love seeing the bond of families who train together!

Through our work, we have seen that confident kids make kinder kids. We teach children how to not only stand up to bullies for themselves, but how to stand up for others.
Our Rules of Engagement teach children to avoid the fight if at all possible by first using their words, and then telling an adult.
When they do need to resort to physical self-defence, we do not teach children punches or kicks in the Gracie Bullyproof program, but rather, empowered by Brazilian Jiu-JItsu, to neutralise, defend, control, and negotiate if possible.
We believe jiu-jitsu is for children of all skill levels and abilities. Your child belongs here.
Through our kids martial arts classes, we have seen our students improve co-ordination, balance, motor skills, focus and discipline. Plus, they make lots of great friends!
Our instructors are highly skilled in teaching martial arts to kids. It’s their PASSION!
For your child’s first jiu-jitsu class, we recommend wearing shorts or joggers, and a t-shirt! If they continue training with us they will need a Jiu Jitsu Gi. These can be purchased at the facility or elsewhere so long as it is white.
